| Description |
The Office of University Communications and External Relations seeks a Graphic Designer. This person will conceptualize, plan, and create visual solutions to communications problems for both traditional and emerging media utilizing industry-standard computer software. They will work collaboratively with the University Communications and External Relations creative team and internal Carlow University clients to find the most effective way to convey institutional messages in print and electronic media, with a special emphasis on advertising development and placement.
Key Responsibilities
-Works closely with the Vice President of University Communications and External Relations to create camera-ready print and Web advertising material to place in local, national, and international outlets; -Works closely with the Web design team to develop, when appropriate, projects for the Web (may include video); -Formats type and graphic elements using industry-standard computer software to produce publication-ready material; -Assists the Senior Graphic Designer with the university magazine, The Carlow Journal; -Designs or creates graphics to meet specific promotional, marketing, and recruitment needs; -Develops the overall layout and production design of newsletters, brochures, direct mail pieces, postcards, invitations, brand identities, e-newsletters, promotional displays, and develop signs and signage systems (called environmental graphics) for the university. Also develop material for Internet Web pages, interactive media, and multimedia projects. -Provides cutting-edge graphic design for a variety of print, display, and digital materials; -Manages projects for brand consistency; -Coordinates with, and consults with, outside vendors when necessary to realize creative projects; -Routinely communicates to team members about the status of all projects assigned; -Uses the project development/review process now in place to ensure that all projects pass through all necessary review channels during development; -Provides creative expertise in developing displays used to enhance special events (including Commencement) and the campus in general (including donor plaques); -Utilizes divisional archiving, file management, file transfer systems; -Demonstrates and reflects understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of Carlow University and the Sisters of Mercy;

Qualifications and Experience
-Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field -At least three (3) years of experience in graphic design -Macintosh knowledge -Strong knowledge of Adobe CS4 Suite, which includes: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver -Knowledge of/experience in audio/video recording desirable -Knowledge of social media a plus -Experience working in PowerPoint to create presentations -Organized and detail-oriented -Able to handle multiple projects at once and to meet tight deadlines -Possess exceptional communication skills
